Virginia plane crash SpaceX Dragon launch fatal Brevard fire: NI90

On May 28th, a small plane crashed in a wooded area near the Space Coast Regional Airport in Brevard County, Florida, killing the pilot and sparking a forest fire. The incident occurred just moments before the launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket carrying the unmanned Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. The rocket, fortunately, was not affected by the crash, and the launch proceeded as scheduled.

The pilot, identified as 64-year-old Terry L. Barton, was the only person on board the aircraft, which was reportedly en route to Knoxville Downtown Island Airport.
