US adults are spending less time on Twitter since Elon Musk took over | Engadget

Have you been spending less time on Twitter lately? Well, you are not alone. According to a recent study by CivicScience, since Elon Musk took over as the CEO of Tesla, U.S. adults are spending less time on the social media site.

The study analyzed the behavior of 1,759 U.S. adults and found that 60% of those who use Twitter less frequently reported that the reason was due to Elon Musk’s increased presence on the app. In fact, 20% of the respondents stated that they are using Twitter “significantly less” since Musk became more active on the platform.

Musk, who is known for his controversial tweets, has amassed over 41 million followers on Twitter. He frequently uses the platform to make announcements and respond to tweets, often sparking discussions and debates. However, his behavior has also caused backlash, with some criticizing his tweets for being insensitive or potentially market-moving.

This study sheds light on the influence a single individual can have on a social media platform. It highlights the power of social media figures and their behavior on users.

Interestingly, the study found that younger adults were less likely to be impacted by Musk’s tweets, with only 31% stating that Musk’s behavior affected their Twitter usage. On the other hand, older adults were more likely to be impacted, with 45% of respondents over the age of 55 stating that they used Twitter less frequently due to Musk’s presence.

In conclusion, this study reveals the changing habits of Twitter users in response to an influential figure’s behavior. It is important to consider the potential impact of social media figures and their actions on users.
