So, I just read this wild article about how people are selling SpaceX Starship debris on eBay. It’s insane, right? Basically, after SpaceX’s Starship SN10 prototype successfully landed but then blew up a few minutes later, pieces of it started popping up on eBay for sale. Can you believe it? People are actually bidding on bits and bobs of a spaceship that exploded! It’s like people are collecting space junk now.
From what I gathered, some of the listings were selling bits of SpaceX’s stainless steel hull for hundreds of dollars, while others were offering pieces like heat shield tiles or even bits of the landing legs. I can’t imagine shelling out cash for a piece of wreckage, but hey, to each their own, right?
Apparently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that debris from space launches be returned to SpaceX, but it seems like some folks managed to grab a souvenir before that happened. It’s just crazy to think about what people will buy and sell online these days.
In the end, it’s a bizarre yet fascinating glimpse into the fervor surrounding space exploration and the cult-like following that SpaceX has garnered. Who knows, maybe one day these eBay scraps will become valuable collector’s items. But for now, I think I’ll stick to buying more practical things online.
