SpaceX, the space exploration company founded by Elon Musk, has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to increase the speeds of its Starlink network significantly. The approval allows the company to operate up to 4,408 satellites in lower orbit instead of the original 1,584 previously permitted. This change significantly boosts its ability to provide faster internet speeds to rural areas in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, where access to high-speed internet is limited. These changes will also help Starlink to compete with traditional internet service providers by offering an alternative internet service method. This expansion is vital for SpaceX to meet its goal of providing high-speed internet access to the majority of the world’s population, particularly in remote and low-access areas where internet connectivity is still a challenge. With this approval, Starlink can continue to make progress in bridging the digital divide, thus creating a more connected world.
