The SpaceX Dragon CRS 27 cargo ship successfully arrived at the International Space Station on August 30th. What caught our attention is the fact that the cargo included a variety of scientific experiments and materials that will help advance research in multiple fields.
According to NASA, some of the experiments will focus on “studying the effects of microgravity on fruit flies and zebrafish, testing a portable ultrasound machine for use in space, and checking on seeds that were exposed to space radiation to see if they still sprout.”
In addition to the experiments, the cargo also included a number of tools and spare parts needed to keep the space station in good condition.
This mission marks the 27th time that SpaceX has flown cargo to the space station, as part of a contract with NASA. The partnership between the two organizations has helped make space travel and research more accessible and affordable, as private companies like SpaceX have stepped in to supplement government-funded efforts.
As space travel and exploration continue to become more accessible and prominent, it’s important to recognize the value of continued research and experimentation in space. This mission is just one example of the ways in which scientific exploration can provide valuable insights and advancements for our society.
