So, I read this crazy article about SpaceX’s Dragon capsule creating a deafening sonic boom that shook the Florida Panhandle. Basically, the capsule was coming back from a successful mission to the International Space Station, and as it re-entered the atmosphere, it created such a loud noise that people thought there was an earthquake or a bomb going off!
According to the article, the sonic boom was caused by the Dragon capsule traveling faster than the speed of sound, which created a shockwave that rattled windows and even caused some car alarms to go off. While this might sound kind of scary, it’s actually a normal part of the re-entry process for spacecrafts like the Dragon capsule.
As someone who grew up near an Air Force base, I’m no stranger to loud noises from jets and planes overhead. But I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to hear a sonic boom created by a spacecraft! It’s pretty wild to think about how far we’ve come in terms of space travel, and how much more advanced our technology is now.
All in all, I thought this was a really interesting article that highlighted the incredible feats of engineering and exploration that SpaceX is doing. It’s definitely not every day that you hear about a sonic boom from a spacecraft, so I’m glad I stumbled upon this article. Plus, it’s a great reminder that science and technology are still pushing boundaries and making strides towards new discoveries.
