So I just read this crazy article about how the NYC MTA is ending its Twitter service alerts because of Elon Musk. Basically, the MTA used to send out notifications on Twitter about delays and service changes, but they were using a third-party provider and it was costing them a lot of money.
Then, Elon Musk comes along and creates his own service called “Machine Learning Transit” that does the same thing but for a fraction of the cost. The MTA tries to negotiate with him, but he’s not budging on his price, so they’re like, “Okay, fine, we’ll just shut down our Twitter alerts altogether.”
Honestly, I’m not surprised that Elon Musk is causing trouble again. But it’s interesting to see how technology is changing the way we get information about public transportation. It’s kind of crazy to think that a single person could have this much influence on a whole system.
In terms of context, I’ve definitely been frustrated in the past by the MTA’s unreliable service and lack of communication. So it’s cool to see people trying to come up with new solutions to these problems, even if it does mean the end of Twitter alerts.
Overall, I think this article highlights the importance of innovation and efficiency in our society, and how technology can be a driving force behind these changes. Who knows what the future of public transportation will look like, but I’m excited to see what comes next.
