As Tesla temporarily stopped Model Y deliveries due to production changes, news has come out that the new version of the car with a BYD battery can sustain fast charging longer than its earlier CATL iteration. According to a recent test, it took about 30 minutes for the new Model Y with a BYD battery to charge from 10%-80%. On the other hand, it took 12% longer for the earlier CATL version to charge to the same level. Though Tesla has not officially announced the shift from CATL to BYD batteries, the test results suggest that the new BYD battery is more efficient at sustaining fast charging over the CATL one. This new development could be a game-changer for electric vehicle (EV) users who are sensitive to charging speed and efficiency. As EVs become more popular, long wait times for charging has been a barrier to adoption. Tesla’s switch to BYD batteries could help reduce this issue and further increase adoption rates. Even beyond EVs, this development is significant as it shows how technological improvements continue to evolve in sustainable transportation.
