Elon Musk, the billionaire inventor and entrepreneur, recently took to Twitter to endorse two of America’s top news anchors to host their own Twitter shows. Musk suggested that both Rachel Maddow of MSNBC and Don Lemon of CNN should consider launching their own social-media-based talk shows. In a tweet, Musk urged the two to think about developing shows “where you can speak freely & discuss any issue.” Musk’s tweet comes at a time when traditional TV news is facing an increasingly crowded market, with new digital outlets and upstart podcasts gaining popularity. It is not the first time that Musk has voiced his opinion on American media. In 2018, the SpaceX founder slammed the media, tweeting that journalists should be held accountable for what he called “the shocking lack of ethics from some political commentators & publications.” With Twitter becoming an increasingly popular platform for people to source their news, Musk’s endorsement of two leading news anchors is likely to be seen as a positive boost for the industry, particularly as traditional media outlets continue to search for new ways to engage with audiences.
