Elon Musk, the outspoken founder of SpaceX and Tesla, is in the news yet again because he has apparently threatened to ‘reassign’ NPR’s Twitter account if it remains inactive. Musk, who has a massive 59.4 million followers on Twitter, called out NPR’s lack of activity on their Twitter account and suggested that he would like to take ownership of the account. The billionaire tweeted “It’s like they don’t care” in response to NPR not using their account. While this statement may seem like a joke, Musk has a history of following up on his tweets. In fact, he has a record of taking action - much like when he personally dug a tunnel to mitigate traffic in LA. So, it will be interesting to see whether NPR takes notice of Musk’s tweet and begins to use their account or whether they will have to relinquish ownership of it to the tech icon. In either case, this story indicates the power of social media in today’s digital world.
