Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is celebrating the opening of the new Gigafactory in Berlin by announcing the release of a limited edition beer called “Tesla Tequila.” The beer is reportedly being sold for over $30 per bottle, making it a pretty expensive way to celebrate the company’s latest success.
Although it may seem strange for an electric car manufacturer to be selling beer, Musk has a history of branching out into unconventional business ventures. In 2018, he launched a flamethrower through his tunneling company, The Boring Company. Similarly, the release of Tesla Tequila seems to be a way for Musk to celebrate the success of the new factory while also adding to his portfolio of quirky products.
It’s worth noting that the beer is not actually produced by Tesla itself, but rather by an independent brewery called “The Braxton Brewing Company.” Nonetheless, the Tesla brand is front and center on the beer’s packaging, featuring the company’s logo prominently.
While it’s unclear how successful the beer will be, it represents yet another oddball move by Elon Musk, who has established himself as one of the tech industry’s most interesting figures. Whether you’re a fan of Tesla or not, it’s hard to deny that Musk’s eccentricity has helped make the company a household name, and the release of Tesla Tequila is just the latest example of this.
