Elon Musk Hates Being Called ‘Cis', So He Bans The Term From Twitter; The Internet Schools Him

So I just read this article about how Elon Musk is banning the term “cis” from Twitter because he hates being called that. Apparently, he thinks that identifying as the gender you were born with is the default, so there’s no need for a special term to describe it. But the internet quickly schooled him on the importance of acknowledging and respecting people’s gender identities, regardless of whether they align with societal norms.

For those who don’t know, “cis” means someone whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth. It’s basically the opposite of “trans”, which refers to someone whose gender identity is different from their assigned sex. It’s a term that’s become increasingly popular in social justice circles over the past few years, as people have become more aware of the importance of trans rights.

Personally, I can understand where Elon Musk is coming from – he’s used to being the default, so it’s uncomfortable to have his identity acknowledged in a way that he’s not used to. But at the same time, it’s important to recognize that not everyone’s experience is the same as his, and that some people feel marginalized when their identities aren’t acknowledged and respected.

I think this article highlights an important debate that’s happening in our society right now – how do we balance individual identities with societal expectations? It’s not always an easy question to answer, but it’s one that we need to grapple with, especially as we strive for greater equality and inclusivity. And for what it’s worth, I think the internet was right to push back on Musk’s stance – it’s always important to listen to marginalized voices and to learn from them, even if it makes us uncomfortable.
