I just read an article about Elon Musk on Twitter, and let me tell you, it’s a doozy. So apparently, LGBT activists have been using the terms “cis” and “cisgender” for years to describe people who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. But guess what? Elon Musk thinks those terms are actually slurs.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Musk argued that the terms were “offensive” and compared them to the N-word. He also claimed that he supported “trans, but not gender identity, which seems to be mostly driven by peer pressure.” Um, excuse me?
As someone who identifies as cisgender, I can say with certainty that I don’t find these terms offensive. In fact, they’re helpful in understanding and discussing gender identity. It’s important for people to be able to express themselves and live their truth, and that means respecting and acknowledging their identities.
It’s also important to note that Elon Musk has a history of making controversial statements on social media. While he is a successful businessman and entrepreneur, his opinions on certain subjects should be taken with a grain of salt.
Overall, this article raises important questions about the language we use to discuss and understand gender identity. It’s not just about “political correctness” - it’s about respecting people’s identities and experiences. And when someone like Musk speaks out against the terminology, it can do real harm to marginalized communities. We need to listen to the voices of those who are affected by these issues and work towards creating a more inclusive society.
