A black former worker has been awarded $3.2m in a racial-harassment lawsuit against Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California. The worker, Owen Diaz, faced a slew of racial epithets and abuse from his coworkers and superiors at the factory. Diaz alleged that his supervisors called him the N-word and other derogatory terms on a daily basis, and that the company failed to adequately address the harassment when he reported it. Tesla denied liability, but agreed to pay the settlement in June. This case serves as a reminder of the need for companies to take complaints of racial harassment seriously, and to create safe working environments for all employees. It also highlights the importance of standing up against racism in all forms, and promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
